Spiritual Retreat Importance

Spiritual Retreat Importance

One can realize the importance of spiritual session from the life of Our Lord Jesus, who left us an example to follow his footsteps (1Pet 2:21). He was careful to wake up early and goes to a deserted area to pray there (psalm 1:35) as well as spending many nights in prayers (Luke 6:12) and also many times he used to withdrew to go to the wilderness to pray (Luke 5:16)

Was the Lord Jesus Christ in need of prayers?

Without a doubt, the unity between the Hypostases is inseparable or divide and so it was in the conversation between the Son and the Father in John17 “And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.”

Moreover, the Lord Jesus Christ clarified for us the importance of the life of union with Him to whosoever wants to follow His footsteps.

If we examine the lives of the men of God in the Holy Bible, we can clearly see the importance of the spiritual session in their lives and we mention some of them as examples:

1-David the Prophet:

Despite his many responsibilities as a king and a leader, he used to spend time with God early morning as he says: My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD;In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.(Psalm 5:3)

2- Daniel:

He used to spend time alone with the Lord and pray even when the king ordered against that. He didn’t care much with the matter but he “he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.”

What is worthy of mentioning are the words “as was his custom since early days” These spiritual sessions was habitual in his life as he always prayed.

Peter the Apostle:

In addition to the congregational prayers with the Church when they used together in one spirit (Acts 2:46), we still find him praying by himself as it was said “Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour.” (Acts 10:9)

From these examples and others, we can realize the importance of prayer and the spiritual session; and the relationship with God is the practical mean for life to be filled with the Spirit of God.
