Opening of the Monastery New Library's Building for Manuscripts

 

On Sunday 19/5/2013 at 11 a.m., St. Mary El Syrian Monastery has welcomed Bishop Kiroloss Abbot of St. Mina Monastery at the Mariot desert, and Bishop Epiphanius Abbot of the monastery of St. Abu Makar at Beriet Shiehet- Wadi El Natron, and Father Amonious Secretary of H.H. Pope Tawadros II attended on his holiness behalf. In addition to a number of Monks from the monastery of St. Mary El Muharrag at Jebel Qosqam –Assiut, and some monks from St. Paul Monastery at the Red Sea, and some monks from the angel monastery at Nkada, and some nuns from the Monastery of St. Demiana at Barary- lqas, and some nuns from the Monastery of St. George at Misr El Adema (Old Cairo).  In addition to welcoming   Mr. James Watt Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Cairo and Mr. Derek Plamply Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations in the Middle East and Mr. Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour the former Minister of Tourism and Ms. Mona Makram-Ebeid the former minister of environment and Dr. Magda Iskander, Dr. Noha AlMekawy director of the Ford Foundation in Egypt, Dr. Stephen Davis Director of the American Research Center, Mr. Zbigniewe Szafra director of the Polish Institute of Archaeology and Mr. Mounir Ghabour owner of Ghabbour Cars companies and Dr. Issa Gerges member of Milli in Alexandria and Mrs. Hala Hashim –lawyer, President of the Coptic Heritage Preservation, and President of the Egyptian Heritage Preservation. As well as Consultant Nabil Abu El Khier, Consultant Nagy Nabil Abu El Khier, consultant Nader Nabil Abu El Khier, in addition to representative from the Egyptian national archive center, representative of the Egyptian Book House, and a delegation from the Coptic Museum, a delegation from the Islamic Museum and a delegation from the American University, a representative from the Head of projects at the Antiques authority, and Mr. Peters and his wife from Peters global publishing house, and Mr. George Kiraz from Georgios global publishing house. All were welcomed by Bishop Metaous the Monastery Abbot, and the monk Fr. Bigoul El Syrian, and some of the monastery’s monks, this was in the occasion of the opening of the Syrian Monastery archaeological library, which consists of many manuscripts in various languages dated back to the fifth century AD.

 

Our sincere heartfelt congratulations to Monk Fr. Bigol El Syrian and monk Fr. Azer El Syrian. May the lord make this service a reference for patristic studies, and a preserve of the authentic Coptic heritage, and a conservation of the spiritual traditions received from the holy fathers.
